The chateau, with its 100% rated Grand Cru Vineyards, was built at the beginning of the 12th century and belonged to Gaucher de Chatillon. Various noblemen owned it through the centuries when it was considered to be the Versailles of the Champagne region, before being ruined during the Revolution and today only a few parts of the original building remain. The de Chassey family have owned the chateau for the last four generations, with Marie-Odile de Chassey the current owner, having inherited it from her father Guy in 1994.
